The Parker Champions of Character: Cierra Mohr, Geoffrey Dunkelberger and Grace DeWald had two
in-person assemblies with the Parker Elementary students. They talked to the students about having Courage to Have Character and what that means.
They asked the students about courage and what it means to them. Geoffrey said if you are scared to do something, you should try it anyway because once you do it, you know it’s possible and you can feel good about it.
Grace talked about what courage looks like. Doing something brave and thoughtful. Trying new things even if you might fail, you should try and have the courage to do so. Cierra discussed where we can find courage and told the students that sometimes we need to take a leap of faith and try new things because you never know how things will turn out.
They also said sometimes you need courage to admit you are wrong and you made a mistake. By trying new things it gives you courage to make new friends. Everyone has courage and it’s in everyone!
The Champions discussed what it takes to have character. They said you need Trustworthiness. You need to be trusted and be the leader that others can rely on and make the community a better place. Respect for others even when you have different views or they have different opinions, you still need to respect them. And accountability is something each of us need to people can count on you and you can count on them. Being a good citizen is also important to make your school and community a better place. Kindness is treating others the way you want to be treated and is very important now and when you get older. To bring out the best in others whether in school, at home or other places in always very important.
Some things the seniors wanted the students to remember is… if you have courage and character, it does not matter if you win or lose, because you know you did your best. Be yourself, no matter what others might be doing or if it’s not the cool thing to do, show your true colors because kindness is always the best option. Doing the right thing is much more important than doing something that is wrong just to fit in. You will have much more friends if you have the courage to use your good character even when nobody it watching.
Thank you Parker Champions for being such great role models and giving great advice for the students to follow. You are truly a great example of what it means to have good character!
