WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUTH OF CHARACTER AWARDS
The Annual Youth of Character Awards recognizes students in grades 3-12 who exhibit strong leadership abilities and whose actions demonstrate and model in and out of the classroom, a continuous commitment to the Five Marks of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Accountability, Citizenship and Kindness.
We encourage our local educators to nominate young people in their classroom who they feel are worthy of such an honor. All student nominees are sent a letter notifying them of their nomination and will be recognized as one of the 2021 Youth of Character Awards recipient.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to hold an awards banquet in March to recognize each student, but we will be doing a virtual presentation in May. Each student will be sent a certificate, medal and a letter congratulating them of the honor.
Nominations: Teachers will be asked to submit 1-2 students per classroom, a short description of how their student represents good character and is a good leader in and out of the classroom and a photo of the student. The photo and comments will be used in our video presentation. Two nominations per teacher in grades 3-12. Nominations can be made online at www.characterontrack.org
Essay Contest: Students are also given an opportunity to submit an essay on how they live their life by at least one of the Five Marks of Character and also how they demonstrate their community involvement or volunteer services as it relates to that particular Mark of Character. A selection committee will judge the essays based on compelling content and understanding of the Five Marks of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Accountability, Citizenship and Kindness. Students may submit their essay by clicking on “Submit Essay” on this website page. The winning essays will be read during the video presentation of awards.
